I cut it off after a few roots had set, and transplanted that 5 foot section of vine to another part of the garden. After sitting there for a while, a new plant took off, filling up about 150 square feet. I decided to cut the secondary off from the plant, but allow the seeds to mature. 3 days after severing it from the main plant, the main vine pumpkin blew up.
