Started the watermelons today. 2- 168 Johnson, and 2- 255 Mitchell. I will hopefully be planting one of each this year.

First split of the season. Only about 200 pounds, never keeping a mutant female again. lesson learned.
Wednesday, August 27 View Page
Second split of the season. This plant was a double disappointment because it was supposed to be a squash.

Another angle. This was the first one lost to a stem split for me since 2004.
Saturday, August 30 View Page
Split number 3 for the year. This is by far the biggest heartbreak of the year. This is from a 935 lloyd. Yeah, I can't believe it germinated either. This was a late set, pollinated with my 1407. I'm going to let it grow out for another week to try to mature the seeds as much as possible.

Another angle. Although it was one of my later sets, It was measuring the heaviest at the time it split. I was very impressed with this plant.

Here is the 1407 plant. I love the look of this one. It was sibbed with a plant another grower has.
Saturday, August 30 View Page
And this is the 1445 Marsh, which was pollinated by the 1407. I like the shape of this one, nothing to worry about here.
Saturday, August 30 View Page
Here's the 998. Flawless shape, pollinated with the 935.
Sunday, August 31 View Page
And here's the 801 Stelts. This was not pollinated until July 26th, and should easily be one of the prettiest i've ever grown.
Sunday, August 31 View Page
Another angle. This was pollinated with the 865 Mettler.
Sunday, August 31 View Page
And here's the 865. I have stopped watering this plant from now on to keep it smaller for a pumpkin boat. This was selfed.

Catching up on pics for the year since I left off. This is the 805 Wolf 08 DMG (blossom split) (935 Lloyd x 1407 Wolf). Weighed at Bear Wallow Farms, in KY.

And here is the other one that I managed to squeeze on the truck for the trip. 576.5 Wolf 08 (907 Wolf x 998 Pukos)

Pulling in to Cooperstown with a full load.
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
587 Wolf 08 (865 Mettler x self). I think this was the 5th time i've grown the 865 seed, and the nicest shape from it.
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
And yet another 805 for me this year, this one was solid. 805 Wolf 08 (998 Pukos x 935 Lloyd).

And for the 2nd year in a row, my prettiest pumpkin was turned into a boat. 664.5 Wolf 08 DMG (801 Stelts x 865 Mettler)
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
Surprising thickness for a pretty one.
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
448.5 Wolf 08 (1065 Christopherson x 998 Pukos). This one was 50 pounds over charts, a nice surprise since the plant had died off about a month before weighing.

This was an odd situation. As my 935 Lloyd was vining out, a secondary snapped as it was setting down. I cut it off after a few roots had set, and transplanted that 5 foot section of vine to another part of the garden. After sitting there for a while, a new plant took off, filling up about 150 square feet. This is the result, pollinated the first week of august. 397.5 Wolf 08 (935 Lloyd x 1445 Marsh)

And here is the pollinating plant's offspring - 783 Wolf 08 (1445 Marsh x 1407 Wolf). The 1445 is 1407 Wolf x 695 Handy.
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
And here is that pollinating plant's offspring: 813.5 Wolf 08 (1407 Wolf x sib), went about 100 pounds over the chart.
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
250 Wolf 08 EST (511 Eddy-Z x 935 Lloyd) Deer attacked this plant, I wish I could have done a better job with it.
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
75 Wolf 08 EST (801 Stelts x 1407 Wolf) This was a pumpkin set on a secondary in August. I decided to cut the secondary off from the plant, but allow the seeds to mature. 3 days after severing it from the main plant, the main vine pumpkin blew up.
Tuesday, November 11 View Page
I usually start a few extra pumpkin plants to give away. I didn't have the heart to kill this unclaimed one, so I threw it in a corner in late june and gave the plant about 150 sqft. 150 Wolf 08 EST (482 Wolf x 801 Stelts). The 482 was 500 Northrup x 1370 Rose.
