Here is a shot of my garden. I have 5 plants growing. I have the 1041 McKie, the 985 Werner, the 719 Tanner, and two of my own seeds, the 948 Israelsen. The 719 Tanner and one of my 948s are backups.

Here is my 948 Israelsen plant. It seems to be my biggest plant so far. It doesn't seem to do well in the heat and is beginning to show some heat damage on some of the smaller leaves.
Monday, June 9 View Page
Here is my 1041 McKie plant. It also seems to have a hard time with the heat. I think I will need to use some shade cloth over both the 941 Israelsen and the 1041 McKie plants until the leaves are mature enough to handle the full Utah sun.

My 985 Werner turned out to be a flat vine so I got rid of it and transplanted the 719 Tanner in its place. Hopefully it can survive the transplant shock. It has not grown much since I transplanted it, but it still looks good. I also have a 500 Northrup planted next to it as a backup, just in case it doesn't make it.

Well, here is the 2nd pumpkin on the main vine of the 948 Israelsen. This one I will keep. It is about 14 feet out on the vine and should blossom in several days.

This is the Israelsen plant. I use shade cloth as a wind barrier and also for shade over the plant until the leaves are mature enough they can take the direct sun.

One more shot of the Israelsen plant.

This is the 1041 McKie plant. This plant is also shaded by the shade cloth and seems to be growing well.

This is the 719 Tanner plant. This plant is not shaded because it seems to handle the direct sun just fine. It's a bit smaller than the other plants because of the transplant shock, but it's growing well now.

We took the family on vacation for 8 days this past week. I didn't even think about the pumpkins :) Here we are in Disney's Magic Kingdom at DisneyWorld. Thanks to my buddy, Scott, for keeping an eye on my pumpkins while I was gone.

The McKie pumpkin looks good, but it has almost entirely stopped growing. I've checked the stump, the stem, the blossom end, the vine. Everything seems to looks good, so I have no explanation why it just quit growing.

The Mckie pumpkin went down this week. It has been slowing down for the last 2 weeks and didn't grow at all the past five days. We noticed a big soft spot on the front of the pumpkin right where the vine was sitting on it. I was afraid that the inside of the pumpkin was starting to rot, so I cut it open to save the seeds. The inside looked fine and I was able to harvest quite a few seeds. The amazing thing was how think the pumpkin was. This picture shows that the pumpkin was 9 1/2 inches thick. It was only estimating about 480 lbs., but I bet it would have gone well over that being so thick.

Here is a cross section of the McKie. You can see how thick this pumpkin really was. 9 1/2 inches!
