Another season quickly approaching. Here is a picture of my vegetable garden. I expanded it to over 2200sqft. I might even put another AG in it. The next few days will consist of me working on the pumpkin patch.
Monday, June 16 View Page
Here is the 802 Kurilich. This has been a very hard start for me. Corn maggots again (2nd year) destroyed most of my main plants. What survived the maggots got stunted by very cool May temperatures.
Monday, June 16 View Page
Here is my 713 lawrence (1074 Calai X self). Not sure why but all my vines are straight to the ground. They are not reaching like in the past.
Monday, June 16 View Page
Here are the 434 Gerhardt twins. They are growing towards each other and the strongest will survive.
Monday, June 16 View Page
The 1191 Zunino. This plant was actually transplanted around May 10th. I thought it was toast but is growing okay since the warmer weather arrived.

802 Kurlich. My 434 Gerhardt is just as big. I also have two other plants growing but smaller.
Monday, June 30 View Page
802 Kurlich. Has about 8 secondaries on each side. I would like around 10. Probably wait some time before I pollinate.
Monday, June 30 View Page
This is my second 713 Lawrence. Its younger and smaller than its big brother.

434 Gerhardt. Nice plant. I had two nice growing 434s growing towards each other and had to pull one. I hate pulling nice plants but these things need a lot of room.

1191 Zunino
Wednesday, July 2 View Page
This is my #1 713 Lawrence. It's growing like a weed. Going to try and pollinate this week. All other plants need another week of growth. I'm looking for pollinations of 12ft plus.
Saturday, July 5 View Page
Not sure what this is? I thought it was an SVB hole but I haven't seen any around and I have been spraying like crazy. I have seen this on several vine tips on different plants.
Wednesday, July 9 View Page
This is the 434 Gerhardt #2. It was brought in to replace the 802 Kurlich that was lost for unknown reasons.
Wednesday, July 9 View Page
This is my 713 Lawrence #2. Almost ready to pollinate.

Not much going on in my patch. I'm still trying to pollinate some of my plants. The plants are very close to taking up my 3500sqft space.
Thursday, July 17 View Page
This is the oldest fruit off of my 713#1 plant. It was around 25" on day 10. I noticed some leaking around the blossom end.
Thursday, July 17 View Page
Corn is currently pollinating.
Saturday, July 26 View Page
This is day 20 for my 713 Lawrence (78"). On day 12 I had to remove the stump and about 1/3 of the plant because of rot. It continued to grow very well.
Saturday, July 26 View Page
This is what I have left of this plant.
Thursday, July 31 View Page
This is on my 713 Lawrence plant #3- 70" on day 20.

This is a late side vine pollination on my 713#2. The main pumpkin split early on and I couldn't get anything else to take on the main. Tomorrow is day 30 and its around 105".
Sunday, August 17 View Page
This is a pumpkin off the 434 Gerhardt. Most of the plant including the stump was removed because of rot. It is around 90". Should be a nice carver.
Wednesday, August 20 View Page
Here is my 713#3 Lawrence (1074 Calai X self) on day 40- 132". Growth has really slowed due to cold temps and lack of rain.
Wednesday, August 20 View Page
My 713Lawrence #1= day 45- 140".
Wednesday, August 20 View Page
Another shot of 713#1. All my 713 pumpkins are turning a nice orange color. Somewhere between medium and dark orange. They are darker than my 713 of last year.
Sunday, August 24 View Page
Day 37 for the 713#2 = 118cc. Its a late and sidevine pollination.
Sunday, August 24 View Page
Day 44 for the 713#3 = 137cc. This has a huge split that I sealed but it continues to grow nicely and is my only chance for a personal best. Its getting very dark orange.
Sunday, August 24 View Page
434 Gerhardt = 98cc.
Sunday, August 24 View Page
Fot the bad news my 713#1 stopped at 647lbs. Not sure why as the plant looks very healthy. The color is very nice. Its crossed with the 1191 Zunino.
Sunday, August 24 View Page
Another picture of the 713Lawrence#1.It grew since day 12 without a stump.
Sunday, August 31 View Page
The next three pictures are from my 713Lawrence(1074Calai X self)#3 plant. Despite a huge split into the pumpkin it still grew to be a personal best. It is currently taping around 730lbs. I don't think I've seen a better looking big pumpkin in person.
Sunday, August 31 View Page
In looking at the pictures that I have taken my camera seems to be washing out the color a bit. Its very dark orange. Only problem is some hail damage.
Sunday, August 31 View Page
I filled in the split with spray foam insulation. It was close to two inches deep. This was a backup plant (the smallest and youngest) in my patch. I really didn't care for it much until mid-June. Pollinated around 7-8 feet.
Friday, September 5 View Page
Here is the 434 Gerhardt. Around 106cc. Nice shape and color. Grew without a stump and 2/3 of a main vine.
Friday, September 5 View Page
Another of the 434. Will make a great carver.
Friday, September 5 View Page
My 713Lawrence plant #3. Continues to grow very well. Color is getting darker by the day.
Friday, September 5 View Page
Another picture of my 713#3.
Friday, September 5 View Page
This is the 713#2. It was pollinated late on the 8th secondary. The color is not as good as my other 713s. It looks to be more like its mother (light-medium). It is 131cc around 550lbs. Not bad for a secondary pollination.
Friday, September 5 View Page
This is something I never delt with before (groundhog damage). My patch is fenced in but one got through. It tore up this pumpkin pretty good. Applied sulfer. Looks to be okay. I have about 7 spots he chewed up.
Saturday, September 6 View Page
This is the demise of my 713#3 plant. I cut the pumpkin off the vine today. It just suddenly appeared this morning and the vine was mushy in several places. The pumpkin is a beauty so I hope it keeps until Halloween. It's around 800lbs.
Saturday, September 6 View Page
I have about 40 leaves on the plant like this.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
The next 5 pictures are of my est 801Lawrence (1074Calai X self). I tried to save it to be carved but I found a soft bottom yesterday. It's a very nice looking pumpkin with deep orange color.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
I sealed up a stem split into the pumpkin in early August and it still grew over 300lbs since that time.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
Another of the 801lawrence.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
It grew to be a personal best for me.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
I am going to collect seeds from it tonight. Hopefully they are still good. It is a 713 Lawrence X 1191 Zunino.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
My two biggest/best looking pumpkins both rotted this year but I have a few smaller ones that I hope will last to carve.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
These next two were taken when the sun went down. They are more accurate for the color of this pumpkin.
Thursday, September 18 View Page
Darn nice color.
Wednesday, October 15 View Page
I do have some pumpkins to display that didn't rot. This is from my 713Lawrence (1074 Calia X self) plant #2. It measures around 640lbs. Not as nice color as my other 713 pumpkins were.
Wednesday, October 15 View Page
My other pumpkins are from the 434 Gerhardt plants. The smaller ones were late season pumpkins that I let grow for the heck of it. The bigger one is around 400lbs.
Wednesday, October 29 View Page
October 29th and its lightly snowing. Been very cold here the last week. My pumpkins have been carved for 7 days and with these cold temps could last a lot longer.

Happy Halloween!!!
