I am starting my 08 Diary late this yr , But here goes , This is pic of amended soil ! Approx 100 trash cans of horse manure on top of 18 bales of straw, Also added Kelp & 400 lbs of gypsum sprayed with several gallons molasses , It was rototilled Many times to break down straw - hopefully the worms were deeper ! Friday, May 2 View Page Started seeds on 28th April, The 1689 & 1014 & 772 are main plants but also 606 for a pollinator & some 672s for back ups, They all popped roots in 36 hrs except the 772 i coxed it a bit & it now is rooting as of today the 2nd (84 hrs later) no pics today as the camera is not connecting to computer, Sunday, May 4 View Page Well the 772 did struggle to put out roots & did to a degree but seed cots rotted, I trashed it !!! Now starting a 1420 to take its place, & 733 Celiberto as back up ! Monday, June 9 View Page This is the 1014 plant, Its the fastest grower in patch ! it started out growing straight up ,& even when coxed it returned up ,, but now seems to be down & good, Its 3 ft now & all secondarys look good so far !! Good sized plant already, & it surveved 113* temp with very few burnt leaves ! , This yr ill keep tract of secondary length & not let get 26 ft Each again , !!! Im keeping it watered more this yr , Sunday, June 29 View Page This is 1689 plant , Its good sized too ,but does not handle heat as good , got several burnt leaves !! first pumpkin shriveled & died during the 113 degree temps , but theres one at approx 12.5 ft & looks good ! Sunday, June 29 View Page This is 672 Eva Bassett plant (wifes) i always use it as back ups & always looks great ,Usely better than the proven seeds , This yr its a main plant (sort of) its in corner of patch ,growing around bolder & hanging over edge , but has medium amount of great soil, , I am going to run some secondarys across some rocks & into under a lemon tree , & a nother over 5 ft rock wall & down into a dirt area ,, Not the same potential as other plants but im giving it all i can ,& if it gets big i may use it as main plant next yr ! Sunday, June 29 View Page This is 733 ciliberto , same cross as the 1068 wallace , Its taking the place of the 1420 larue, the 1420 grew slow & started to ooose out ot stump ,it got pulled out , So the 733 back up is running from other direction , It looks good but was started several days later than others , so a bit smaller, but growing just as good, it has large area to grow into , hopefully !!! Friday, July 18 View Page This is a interesting pumpkin & plant ,You see the scares squirrel gave it when size of orange! This plant has secondaries going over wall & some going under a tree , plant goes around rock , But pumpkin seems to be growing good! Its off my wifes 672 which is 1088 W-Kennedy pollinated with 856 h dill , so grand parents are 723X 712 & 846 x 810, You can see the 810 in the length of the stem ! Sunday, August 17 View Page the 733 fruit on day 36, a few days ago. for 3 days all fruits have slowed (strange that all 4 have), not weather, not sure what but i did stop the fish 2.5 weeks ago , I resumed it yesterday , We'll see !! But this fruit has been without stump since poll, it is at 454 lbs in pic !! Tuesday, August 19 View Page Well- the middle of season is end for me (again) A little later than last yr, Its not for a lack of trying though!!!, belive me i put work into patch this yr! & next i may not be able to do it as my 4 yr old is really giving me a run for my money !! I really wanted to bring pumpkin to weighoff ,,They are still growing off secondary a bit, But i think they too will go soon ,maybe 2 weeks or so ! some may make it to 700 lbs one is at 500 one at 600 & 625 & 670 , , What hurts most is ,its not just this yr but every year it seems ,, kind of taking the fun out of it !!!Even if i got pumpkin to only 500 lbs but that was the whole seasons worth of growing that would be cool , but half a season ??? Id be lucky if one out of the 4 did not rot by weighoff time !! I will say for the most part people have been nice to me here on the bigpumpkins with the Exception of the (CTGS&PGA seed auction,because i was late with monies 710$ No-one could be gotten hold of after trying over & over & over to talk to! but finely making arangements to pay by certain time Via the e- mail, still was not able to talk to anyone!! a week before the agreed date they sent letters to every body they could think of to smeer my name,, I dont know why but i still kept my word & sent the 710$ ,, If anyone knew all the details they would know thats BULL****,,, Not the good kind, ) anyways with that said , Good luck to all !!! , & yes i know some of the growers & seed auction ers & they are some of the nicest people iv ever talked too !!! Thursday, September 18 View Page Off the 1014, This one rots out on bottom, Not sure why it seemed solid and it was on inside except one spot on bottom! It was 323 Ott or 691 lbs, But i weighed all pieces on scale that i calibrated and came out to 719 lbs, I would sure grow this seed again, the shape was perfect & inside looked better than any i have grown before! If not for disease on plant i think it would have gone 12-13 hundred ,Owell !!! Wednesday, October 8 View Page Well a surprise !! The one off the 672 plant went 20+% heavy it was 736 lbs on the OTT chart ,But went 892 on a scale! Cool a new PB for me, Kind of amazing being it stoped way early from the deseses in patch ! I think they all grew to only a bit over half there potential ! This is it in pic - carved by Kevin Smith, Also the seeds are biggest & best looking seeds i ever seen! It was crossed with 1014 ,& that one also heavy ,Plus simular shapes this should be a really great seed !! Wednesday, October 8 View Page Well a surprise !!
