Guess it is time to start my diary for the new season. I've got about 50 plants growing in the sun room. they are for our local garden club fund raiser for scholarships and a school garden for the nearby school.

All plants survived while we were abalone diving. Thur. when we got home had thunderstorms. Missed the hail by a mile. Quarter size which is big for us because it seldom hails here. Gave plants fish fert. drench. Hope to get all the watering system connected tomorrow. Should hit 85 next week.

The hot dry north winds had hit the Central Valley. Fire warnings up. We already had one fire across Jackson Highway. Just grass no buildings. Hope the pumpkin plants survive the wind.

We had our first hundred degree weather today. It's 11:00 and still 84 outside. The sun shade cloth and misters are working. The females are starting to come on. I hope I can keep them cool tomorrow.

We had our 1st. 100 degree temps today. One therm. said 100 and the other 104. About 3:00 I turned the misters on manually and let them run until 7:30. I have 4 pumpkins growing. 1303 Urnea #1 34in Cir. #2 25.5in #3 42in. Tomorrow I will cull one of them. My largest pumpkin is the 489 Veader 57 Cir. It gained 7 ins. I culled one from this plant today. They were all fert. around the 4th and 5th.

Can't remember the exact day so I'm calling Day 16. 1305.0 Urena #1 Cir. 51 #2 59 #3 culled. 898 Veader cir. 73. This one has a nice shape but it is starting to turn orange. Just hope it keeps growing. I have no sets on my giant squash yet. Tomorrow I hope to get more fence up and as much hardware cloth as I can get buried. We have voles or meadow mice real bad this year.

Slow but even growth. 489 VEADER D19 Cir.84=175lbs. 1305 UREN #1 D19 Cir 61.5= 78.9lbs #2 D19 Cir. 69.5 107.1 lbs. I almost have all the fence put up. Seems likes it takes forever to get things done.

The 489 Veader coontinues to grow in the shape of a wagon wheel Cir. 93=227 lbs. Gain of 18 lbs. The 1st 1305 Urena is smaller but the pumpkin is longer. Cir. 68= 103 lbs. 2nd Urena is Cir. 78= 145.5 lbs. + 14.5 lbs. It is also longer than the Veader. My squash plant does not have any pumpkins large enough to measure. Weather continues to be cool in the high 80's low 90's. Unbelieable in Sac & central valley at this time of year.

Pumpkins continue to grow. 8/14 489 Veader OTT 412lbs. 1303.5 Urena #1 282 lbs. #2 241lbs. Our weather is still cool for the valley 95 tomorrow. The picture is the 489 Veader.

Just got back from the North Coast( Stillwater Cove Campgroung). Pumpkins are still growing. Urena #1 OTT 243.5=312lbs. #2) 255=357lbs. Veader a nice orange 277=453 lbs. so far this is my personal best. Another Urena has Dill ring 242.5=308lbs.
