Just to let you know I am still alive and kicking. I have just one plant going this year a 454 Engel. A female should be opening any day now. The plant is the right size but seems like it is two weeks behind. I am sure I can get it big enough to whoop Bob's Pumpkin and take the Prettiest Pumpkin award. The thing I do not mind about virgin, amended soil is the cuke beetles have not found my secret location yet. Thank's Jodie for allowing me to plant a pumpkin in your yard. Next year lets get rid of a little more grass. The horse will make more manure than one pumpkin can consume.:) Plus I think giant pumpkins are like herd animals..need more than one or they are lonely

Pollinated a 454 Engel x self today. The plant is a perfect size. Might be getting a little to much nitrogen, as the horse poop pile under the eave has gotten some pretty good drenchings lately. One plant almost seems to easy.

The Pumpkin on the 454 is filling out nicely. Symmetry is perfect, nice smooth skin, you can just tell it is going to be a looker. On a goofy note I have been having an issue with a very quick bunny. So the other day I saw movement in the garden. The corn and beans were shaking and moving, whatever was coming at me was as big as a wererabbit. If you do not know what a wererabbit is I suggest you rent Wallace and Gromit. I headed for the corner of the patch where the exit is. Reached down and grabbed him by the ears. This is no wild bunny I caught a Flemish Giant. Needless to say he is now in proper captivity, along way from where he can do any harm.

454 Engel is still chugging along..The symmetry and color on this one is going to be beautamous. Jodie has now claimed the pumpkin as hers. So I am not sure if that is a good thing or not. Maybe now is when I should try to get more pumpkin patch for next season :)
