It's great to look back at photos from last year. At the time, it was overwhelming, but now I welcome it back. Hopefully there is no floods and I can get this soil straightened out. My garden is near a creek and with that comes the lowest grounds so I'm last to thaw, first to freeze. We shall see what I can do in 2015.

Always keeping me busy is this cacti collection. Many old, many new. I've found growing cactus from seed my biggest challenge but from this photo you can see many seedlings; one year to nearly four years old. So....pumpkins that grow 40 pounds a day, to cacti that grow half inch a year, it's all here:)

This was the soil test going into my 2014 season. In comparison to what I was used to in my previous years of pumpkin growing at a totally different address, I was sunk seeing this as the soil looks like worm castings. However, on a year where my garden was submerged for a good portion of the spring and with intensive care after, I was able to pull a 1,445 pounder, a 1,337 pounder, and from a post flood planting, an 880 early pick, and from a plant that was in water for two weeks, died and re-sprouted: a 567 pounder. I told myself, in these foul conditions, if I can get to 1,000, I can surely get to 2,000. A huge mark against me that I did not account for is being in low ground. The area I plant in is likely the last place to warm up and the first place to freeze. I'm hoping last year was the test run I figured it would be and nature pitched every curve ball to reintroduce me after three seasons off.

When encouraging the top root into action is a success. However after a three inch rain last week, I think my stumps all blew up from turgor pressure...

Pumpkin on 890 BOGIE seed. What is a backups backup late planting has caught up and become likely my favorite shape and fastest growth in patch.

This is Mark with the 890 Bogie pumpkin still chugging away. Most of the plant behind the pumpkin that suffered hail and wind damage are dust in the wind as seen.

I did a quick measure on my three kins today off schedule to make some calculations and decisions. I was surprised to see they are definitely still moving the chains out there so rock on.
