So here it is, resting til oktober. We wil check on it regularly and treat it with a mild bleach solution.

And just for the record, 897 lbs is something we are very proud of. Never the less there was some slight dissapointment that it didnt go heavy as we hoped. So the magical 1k mark wil remain a goal for us. But our learning curve made us realize that much more is possible here in sc. And we got plenty years to prove it.
All in all we had a great season. And we topped it off with a state record,,,we couldent ask for more..
a final thank you to all growers,,and good luck to all of you, may your season atleast be as good as ours,
Grow em Big!!
(attached a picture of the offical weightform. the weighing was attended by inspectors of agraculture and the sc,state weightmaster.)

It had nice thick walls, but unfortunately all seeds were hollow. Not one good seed. It has been a nice fruit though. and if the plant wouldent have been severely sunburnt who knows what might have been. Never the less a good result for a pumpkin grown on grass.

And finaly a little melon growing. after two aborts here a 204 white x self. But this also needs more sun. Hard to believe after the hot days we already had that august turns out like this. temps are nice,,,in the high 80s but to much cloudcover for optimal growth.

And this is our first long gourd. its now the 57.5 Finders.
After a storm the net on wich it grew came down,,and as i tried to adjudst it, the gourd fell down. Dum, but a good lesson. Not a big disaster, cause it only grew 2.5 inch the last 4 days. It came down on day 26, so it was close to stop growing anyway.
Its been a great experience growing this, and we wil try it again for sure. Next time we wil be prepared,,,,

Manure and leaves tilled in. Next two weeks we will be ammending stuff like gypsum, calcium nitrate, etc. We will also start adding benificial bacteria, to assist in the breaking down of all the raw organic matter we added. Further more several kinds of meals, like kelp, blood, bone, cottonseedmeal and coffeegrounds will be added. After all necessary ammendments are in a period of rest for the soil.

Next to that about a 100 lbs of bonemeal down and extented the patch, making it suitable for 4 plants.
as you can see, its a familie thing, the growing here. This is our little Heather, she wil get a plant for herself next year wich she can take care for. (under some strict supervision ofcourse)lol.
