Firstly the above post had nothing to do with me, i dont know what it is. Ive had trouble putting entries on here, im no computer expert so thats why im late starting my diary. Well i was hoping to grow these four seeds this year but they all failed! Two just rotted, one was all deformed and the other took a long time to germinate and was a weak plant which was never going to be any good.

So it looks likely that i will be going with these four as they are the best of the rest i planted. 1537 and 690* were planted on the 7th of april, and 753 and 1020* were planted on the 10th. All are now planted out now as are their back up plants.

Im growing four instead of three this year and growing from one side to the other. Yes my plants are considerably smaller this year, 500 sq ft per plant but i will have one extra chance to actually get something to the scales!!!

My marrow plants on the other hand have really let me down, all four plants must be close to six feet long now and all four are not producing any secondary vines. Ive never had this happen before. they just seem to put out a cluster of male flowers and perhaps a leaf.

i cant understand why they are doing this. i cant see myself getting a marrow of any size this year if they keep growing like this.

Sorry no pictures yet as someone lost part of the camera! just a quick update to let everyone know how things are progressing! Marrows, as far as getting a decent sized one then im down to one plant which i pollenated sunday. Squash have been a total disaster as the fruits keep aborting, i have one now which is about 50 lbs on the 690* on the end of the main, very slow starter. But the pumpkins are doing great! This evening i measured the 753 which measured 270 ott estimating at 421 lbs at day 34 and its a nice shape and nice orange, 1537 measured 191 ott or 157 lbs at day 22. Pictures to follow soon... hopefully

The squash split yesterday which was a bit of a surprise, It was not growing at much of a pace and was a good solid shape. The pumpkin is still ok, an area of rot on the stem but otherwise ok. for now anyway.
