Must say its been a long winter, alot of snow, cold temps one storm dropped us 22", the last one, 21" and the current storm over us is predicting up to 20 inches.. snow, snow and more snow. Anxiously awaiting the upcoming growing season, spring, warm weather, etc. Best wishes to all the growers in the new year in reaching a new PB.

Havent seen so much snow since 96, when i was rather young. This would be phillys largest snowfall for a winter season on record. The snow in my yard sits well over 30" deep which is combined of the 2 big storms we had this week, but some of it had a chance to melt during 2 days of sun between these big storms.

Might plant most of the pumpkins out tomorrow, they have been hanging out in there pots waiting and being protected from these night temps in the 30s which is absolutely ridiculous for this time of year. theres "ok" temperatures in the forcast though so ill get them in the ground

Here is a the 4.1 Rahe. Its a AG x Tetsukabuto cross which i am trialing it to test its resistance to phytophthora. This pathogen runs rampant at the community garden here in which i grow most of my AG's, as well as other veggie crops. Thanks Ron, for the seed!

1355 Bhaskaran, has another female blossom down at about 13 feet out, going to look at the fruit position and decide on it. Theres also another one down the line at the very growth tip visable.
Monday, June 14 View Page
Heres a side shot of the 1355. The plants getting big. It may be best to remove the female blossom that is just about to open and let the next one go, only because i am going on vacation starting the 20th till the 30th and i dont want the fruit to get into trouble while im gone. The plants at the greenhouse site will be watched by my co-workers, they are great for that!

Happy 4th of July! I have a bunch of update photos on my pumpkins coming very soon, The plants grew so much while i was away, and they were very well taken care of. I have a few fruit set so far on some plants. Its been very hot and dry lately, 102 for tmrw. These temps are making them wilt so fast..
Tuesday, July 6 View Page
102 degrees for today, hasnt been this hot since i can remember lol.
Wednesday, July 7 View Page
Heres one i got going on the 1004 mohr, placed a board down today under it and began proping up the vine. Covered in remay. The plant is showing some heat wilt , however the tempeartures have just about hit 100 for 3 days straight. The mill fabric mat produces a lot of excess heat also, and it gets its fair share of water because of it.

This is a concern on my 1004 mohr plant, the upper portion of the vine right past the pumpkin is creasing due to the pumpkins sides pushing into its stem. Ive tried since the fruit was small to help steer the fruit away from the vine as much as possible, the vine was difficult to work with because this particular plant had a very large main vine, even at the growth tip, alot bigger then any AG pumpkin ive grown, Therefore it wouldnt budge much. At the angle of the vine i dont see much that i can do with it.

Started my first day of the semester at temple ambler, luckily my growing site is not too far away, so i can drop by during my long breaks between class, just to keep up on maintenance and to ensure its being watered well enough. another heat wave this week mid 90s for a few days.

just an overlook of the patch at this time, the new growth on the left side along the edge is on the 1004 mohr, I've let this secondary run back around toward the stump area as hope for continued energy to the fruit, as most of its older leaves have been removed or are in decline at this point.

1355 Bhaskaran weighed in at 667 pounds (went 19% heavy!!) 1004 Mohr weighed in at 561 pounds. I will also note that both of these pumpkins OTT if i recall was an inch apart. The one weighed about the estimate and the Bhaskaran went way heavy! Was very happy to see that number on the scale Will have some photos up soon from the weighoff. Congrats to all the other growers at the weigh-off. It was great talking with everyone.
