These starts are about 15-20 days old. (I'll do better with my joural next time). Atlantic Dill soaked and germinated in coffee filters. Transplanted to some good composted soil and looking like success. I've got a real pest problem. Coyotes, stray dogs, gophers! so I'm not expecting much. But you gotta try. The weather is good with rain tonight so I'll put them out tomorrow .

The plum blossoms are just showing. The peach tree is blossoming and the new pomegranite tree is leafing.

Growing these from old seed gleaned from another plant. Something about my compost heap that is magical? Wasn't expecting all 98 to germinate. Recipe for onion soup.

It's so cold and windy today. Tonight looks like 39 degrees for the low. Put all the non-pumpkin starts in the greenhouse and under the trees. Heavy frost is what I'm expecting. John Coleman says tomorrow is the last day of cold and the warm weather is on the way. Worst March in a long time is what he says. I'm freezing tonite. BUT, the weather can break here in two or three days and it'll be 80. I'm just putting this here for a memory. Cause this isn't what I expected when I germinated these seeds

It happened. Cold front blew through, it's over and today it's in the 70's. Put two plants in the dirt. This weekend is in the 60's and next week in the low 80's. Greenhouse plants took a beating. Lots of water tonight for the lettuce and spinach.
Tuesday, March 16 View Page
It got hot! in the upper 70's yesterday and probably lower 80's. All the lettuce, onions and spinach in the winter garden took a hit. Unbelievable how the weather can turn in two days. 2 plants are in the dirt and loving the heat. The others still in pots are starting to wan tto escape. Got to figure something out. I know they'll grow it's just what area of the property do I want overrun.

the first two plants are doing fine and the three others are holding up well. Supposed to be COLD next week and kinda worried about them. Highs in the 50's after 80 degree weather is hard for even me. So far so good lots of spring blooming pics on the way. Peach tree is a beauty.

Is this the kind of setup you want for a happy pumpkin. I laid some bunker liner underneath and then filtered the sand. I wish I had it this good!!! If you have some advice let me know. I've got three or four that are looking good.

Sunday, June 20 View Page
I'm really starting to think I can do this. Wait....I'm doing it!
Wednesday, June 23 View Page
Here's a pic of the keeper. She's growing fine and starting to flatten out. I'm seeing the first signs of gnaw marks but the rascals haven't got to my bigguns.
Sunday, June 27 View Page
gnawing rodents got in the patch and left their marks. Not too bad. Weather has been excellent but the powdery mildew is showing. Treating it with fat free milk and water. It's under control. I HOPE! Might be moving. Big job opp in Monterrey. What to do?

varmints!
Tuesday, July 13 View Page
Got the job in Monterey so the pumpkin stuff is slowing. Overrun by powdery mildew so most leaves have been removed. Next year from the bay area!
Saturday, August 21 View Page
I've moved to Monterey and luckily the new people that moved into the house wanted the pumpkins. It was a great adventure and I thank all the folks that gave me guidance during the season. I'll be watching!
