This is my line up for the 2009 season. The big boys!(1568 Connolly and 1536.5 Van Kotten)also the state champs (1467 Perham and 1392 Breznick)and 1255 Van Kotten and 695 Young and 1184 Barker and 906 Boyce and 871 Cadieux and Don Langevin's (1689*1689-selfed.I think this should be a good year if they all come up. Got my fingers crossed.

What we got was a nice walleye that was 6.52 pounds. That is the first one i ever caught. Well worth geating up early and dealing with the cold temps.

Well today was a very wet rainy day here in vermont. Lost most of our snow that we had. Hit a high of 57 today. Lots of water every where. But good news we are getting closer to planting only 2 more months can't wait!!!

Well today it got up to 29 degrees and with all the rain we got late last week the stream next to my house has started to run again. It was frozen solid since late november. Getting closer to spring everyday.Can't wait!!!

well we are about half way though what has been the longest month of the year so far. Got up to 58 today with some heavy rain over night. Patch is starting to clear off nicely now but i am sure we will get more snow before the end of this month.

My son thought it would be a great chance to get his 4 wheeler out and see how it would go in the snow that we have left. He had a ball on it. Felt like spring !!!!

Well today was a beautiful day in vermont got up to 48 and sunny. Perfect late winter day.I built a stand today for my grow light. Also i started my giant tomatoes today.

And 3 seeds that i had got from Don Langevin when i ordered some of his 1689 Jutras crossed seeds. They should be 10 days or so till they are up. Will let you know how they do. I gave them a drink of Neptunes Harvest seaweed and tucked them in .

Well I have 1 of my 6 seeds up at 7 days . It is a 2.75 Strange that took its time coming up but you know how the first plant of the year is . It takes forever but now it is up and the growing season is on !!!

I also have 1 of Don Langevins seeds up that he sent me. Just broke up through the potting soil tonight. I also have 2 others that have come up through but could not get any pictures. The time has come ones again to grow some giant Tomatoes !!!

Well today i got my seed pack from the PNWGPG it had a couple realy good seeds in it. Couple good onces were the 1027 from Erin Huff and the 1247 Pugh. And Erins 782 greenie. Really GOOD SEEDS CAN'T WAIT TO GO THEM !!!

well the new patch area is finally dry and i can start to get the season under way. I am going to make this new patch 60 feet by 70 feet which is 4200 square feet. This should be enough room for me to do what i want from now on.

well i got most of my tilling done on my new patch and added four loads of cow manure and horse manure. That is alot of work and hopefully it will pay off in the fall.

I socked all my seeds ina 3 % solution of hydrogine peroxide and water for 2 hours and then added some seaweed fert. from neptune harvest

This is my germination chamber . it has a heat pad in the bottom and a small in the top bax so it stays nice and warm perfect for germinating. Can't wait to see what comes up. Got some realy great seeds in there with lots of potental. Got my fingers crossed.

well today is tuesday and i have 2 seeds that have split in the side and should be standing tall wednesday. Can't wait to see them standing tall. Oh the two seeds are the 1467 Perham and the 1568 Connolly. So far so good hope to see more split tomorrow.

My 1537 Stelts is still the best of all my plants. I also have good news i have one more plant up. It is the 900 Langevin. So i am up to 13 out of 14 plants. That is a good average for my real first year growing atlantic giants. Learned alot from this site and owe alot to all the people that throw out really good info. Thanks all !!!!

I finally recieve my secret weapon today. It is a load of 3 year old eurasian milfoil that was taken out of the local Lake Bomoseen. This may be what those giant pumpkin plants want to grow in .We shall find out.

Well today was the day to get most of my plant into the ground. It was a wet day and i didn't have anything going on so it was perfect for planting. I put in the ground the following plants. 1568 Connolly,1537 Stelts,1536 Van Kooten,1467 Perham ,1392 Breznick, 1255 Van Kooten,1184 Barker,906 Boyce ,900 Haist squash, 871 Cadieux.All were looking great and all had therefirst true leaf opened up.

My wife Tracey and i built 3 hot houses today for my plants. It has been cool here in vermont and i know they need it warm to keep growing. Was about 56 today and very windy.

I only had 1 seed this year that didn't come up. That seed was 1 of my 2 squash seeds. It was the 500 Hull . It never even pushed out a root. What a disapointment but oh well. I did 13 out 14 seeds this year not to bad for a new grower.

Well monday night it got down to 37 and tonight they are call in for frost . I hope we don't but i am covered .Yesterday beening monday 5/11/09 i planted my 7 giant tomatoes. They don't look to good today but they should be fine. been having trouble with them this hole year so far but they have keep fighting to stay around.I hope they make it!!!!

Does anyone know what this is on 3 of my plants? I noticed it yesterday. They were the last 3 plants that i put in and all have it on them. Looks like someone sprayed gray paint on the cot leaves. Any help or comment would be appreciated

Well this was a real shocker this morning when i went out to check on my plants. This was 1 of my best growers this year and now it is broken in half. I have stacked it down and am seeing if it will heal it self but i am afraid it is n't going to. I will leave it for 2 days to see !!!! Sorry it is the 695 Young. What a kick in the ___ !!!!!

This is another good plant that i haven't talked about but i think it is going to do good for me this year, It is the 906 Boyce.This was a long and very orange pumpkin that was grown about 12 miles from my home.This plant loves the vermont soil. Time will tell with this one. Hope it grows a big one.

Here is another plant that is doing good it is the 1255 Van Kooten. As you can see i have alot of water bottles in my hot houses. They are there to keep my plants warm at night. It is still cold here at night so every little helps.

And 1 more that i have not shown much. This is the vermont state record 1392 Breznick . This was probly the best looking pumpkin that i have ever seen. It was dark orange and perfectly round. Hope it will grow me a nice 1 also . Got my fingers crossed !!!

I took some of my hot houses down today and let the plants out to run. This is my 1536 Van Kooten that is out to about 5 feet at this point in the year and still going strong. It has its first small pumpkin on it and hopefully alot more to come . Maybe even a really nice one !!!!

My 906 boyce is still going strong. I think i heard that if the leaves get to big that is a sign of to much of something but i don't remember. The leaves are hugh on this plant. Let me know if there is something i need to do to stop them from getting so big.

My 1536 Van Kooten has the first small pumpkin on it of the year!!! This is what i have been waiting for all winter. Now it is here. Even though i will have to cull it in a couple of weeks it is still cool to have 1 on there.

My only greenie for this year was removed from its hot house today also. It is doing alright but not expecting much from it . It has been slow since the first day in the patch. Oh it is the 900 Haist. Maybe it will take off if it ever gets warm here and stops raining.

This is my 1184 barker that is a little slow on the start also but should take off . I applied some of my tea that i had been brewing for 4 weeks now . Boy oh boy does this stuff stink !!! My 1392 Breznick is doing great to . It is out to 7 feet 6 inches and has secondary's out to 3 feet. It has almost caught up to the 1536 Van Kooten. Oh this one also has the first female flower of the year on it at 7 feet. Sweet !!!!

Here is a picture of half of my plants . All looking good so far in the early season. I foliar feed all my plant today with my neptune harvast fish and sea weed. And looks like i got rid of most of the cucumber beetles the other day when i applied the seven to them. I know they will be back and i am ready

My 695 Young is still around after getting broke off early in the season in a wind storm but i am not sure if it is going to be able to support a pumpkin on it. It has three vines coming off it and one is a double vine and the other two have a messed up main vine that doesn't seem to want to run. I will probly let it go and maybe get some males off it to pollinate some of my other plants with.

Today i got home from work and the wind has been blowing hard all day. I went out to check on my plants and found two of them had been rolled by the wind. This is the 900 Haist and it had a small problem.

Here is a updated picture of 1 of my patchs. Everything is growing good. We need some sun soon . I still can't get the cucumber beetles under control. Sprayed twice already but i think all the rain is washing everything off the plants that i put on.

Here is my biggest plant still . It is the 1536 Van Kooten and it is out to 13 feet and about 14 feet wide . Growing alot when the sun is out and the rain has stopped.It has 1 pumpkin on it at this time and two more that will be pollinated by the end of this week.

This is my 1467 Perham . This is another 1 of those plants that has huge leaves on it. The other 2 are the 906 Boyce and the 871 Cadieux. all the plants are located in differant areas in my 3 patches.

I pollinated another female this morning on my 1392 Breznick this is the second one on this plant. Todays is out to 12 feet on the plant and was a messed up 5 lobe. I will see what it does .

1467 Perham is also doing good at this point in the season. It is out to 12 feet and i have 1 pollinated on it at 9 feet. The pumpkin is growing slow but everything is with all this rain. We got 6 out of 7 for last week with the rain. Hope we will see 7 days of sun this week but i don't think that is going to happen!

1537 Stelts is another plant that is still chugging along. Out to about 11 feet and has 1 pollinated on it and is growing good.

871 Cadieux is still my smallest in the big patch but still holding his own. This plant is out to 9 feet now and has hugh leaves and a hugh main vine. Hope it will get a female on it in the next couple of weeks to see if it can grow a big pumpkin. We will see.

1392 Breznick is a really good plant. It is out to 15 feet and has 2 pumpkins on it already. I did kill a SVB on it tonight and hope i got anything that it left behind.

welll today was a sad day for me. My 906 Boyce had a really good grower going on it and with all this rain in the last 2 weeks it couldn't hold together. I cut it off the plant which it had been growing on since the 30th of June.12 days old. It was almost the size of a basketball

Foliar feed all my plants tonight. Finally was able to get in the patch 1 night this week without it raining. Seems nice for a change , and my plants will apprciate it as well. Today i loaded up my 906 Boyce that is a bright orange pumpkin and a 14 inch wide sunflower head and this giant tomato and friday morning my wife is going to take them to the State Fair in Rutland Vermont.

This is my 1184 Barker and is about done. The plant is dead !!! I will be moving it to the front lawn by the end of the week to set up my fall display of my pumpkins and other thins that i grew on this year.It is at 74x78x97x249=333

Here is my big one in my patch it is the 1255 Van Kooten and it is up another 9 inches this week and hanging in there. It has another 34 days till the Vermont Giant Pumpkin Growers weigh-off . I hope i can keep the plant alive till then. Todays measurements are 89x93x131=313 ott. and is around 650 pounds.

Took my 906 Boyce to the Rutland State Fair on friday and it got second place there. It was offically weighed in at 370 POUNDS.The 370 Cole 09 With its really orange skin. I think this was the nicest veggie at the fair.

But nothing for my giant tomato because there was no others brought to the fair this year. That sucks because i think i had a good one there. I will take it to get weigheds after the fair.

I also have tested one of my seeds from my 1536 Van Kooten x 1568 Connolly est. 234 pounds and went down to blossom rot. And as you can see it germinated in 3 days . Should be a great seed next year. Has great genetics. But i only have 90 of them . Definately growing one next year.

Another great cross here . The 1537 Stelts x 1536 Van Kooten which was also a damaged pumpkin and went down to a stem split. I have not tested these yet but should be fine. I do have alot of these , there are about 300 of them

Went up to the Champlain Valley Fair today to bring home my 4 place pumpkin that has been up there for the last 11 days. I think it has put on some color since it was up there .

Well i got home tonight and looked into my in box and Dan Boyce had sent me a couple pictures from the Rutland Fair. This is my giant tomato and he had brought over his offical scale and weighted it.

Here is my 1255 Van Kooten. Stopped growing about a week and a half ago and now it is waiting to be taken to the VGVGA weigh off on Oct. 10. Hope it hangs around till that day. It is still white and sounds like a rock when you tap on it. Hope it goes heavy!!!

We got back from the Vermont weighoff and i did really well for my first year. The giant squash went 278 pounds!!!

And the scale reads 827 pounds!!! I can't believe it i broke 800 pounds on my first year. I am so proud i have worked really hard this year at this and it payed off. I had 4 seeds that started to grow in the 287 Cole 09 so i potted them and they are growing great. This was my sqaush that was from a beautiful orange pumpkin the year before so should throw a nice orange pumpkin next year.Not many seeds in this (871 Cadieux x 1568 Connolly)
