Thursday, May 27 View Page First entry ever, this year me and my buddy are attempting to grow giant pumpkins, We have 5 plants all together put them in the ground 3 weeks ago, seem to be doing pretty good. Some leaves have a few holes in them and on one plant a secondary stem got bent and setacted a little, but over all they look pretty healthy. Here is the biggest one picture taken 5/25/10 Monday, June 28 View Page June 28th first attempt at pollination, we will see Tuesday, June 29 View Page My partner in Crime on one plant (Mehgan) on 6/28/10, took a male from this plant and pollinated our other patch female on 6/28/10. Wednesday, June 30 View Page Pollinated another female about 10 foot out today on big plant, had to use a male from a different plant, but same seed hopefully that will be ok, couldn;t get to other patch for different plat this morning. Thursday, July 1 View Page Well my partner in crime, killed one of our smaller plants with the tiller, he got a little carless, and whamo 3 weeks of growth gone, we will see if she comes out of it??? Anyway at least it was not one of or big plants, did find 2 jap beattles on pumpkin last night, hit them with insecticide today!!!! Hope this is a an ok cir for first time pumpkin, hoping to have better on super secret plants!!!! that are 4 days old and as big as a softball already!!! Hopfully going to be a good punkin Friday, July 9 View Page Here is the second pumpkin on Geoprge 14 1/2 circumference at day 4 12foot out, my other one at 9 feet out at 9 days was 17 1/2 in circumference, think I am going to cull the 17 1/2 incher today?? Day 20 150 OTT, it grew 10 inches OTT in 10 hours, these things are awesome!! with 150 OTT does anyone now about what avg pumpkin if everything keeps going well how big it might get??? I love watching these things grow, dusted with Sevin, found spider mites and cuc beetles also did a foliar spray with neptunes this weekend as well. Thursday, August 5 View Page last entry should have said 196" = 169lbs day 28 Friday, August 6 View Page Well we have been measuring wrong for OTT, just read yesterday you go ground to groun twice, we were taking 2 circum and one ground to ground measurement, not to far off was 196" by old measurement, instead we got 189" so lost a few pounds but will gainit back this weekend, right around 150lbs day 29 Tuesday, August 10 View Page Day 34 hit 200lbs, not huge gains but steady, put captan on a stem split last night, have had heat index 100-110 for the past 4 days and it is going to continue the rest of teh week. Put a boost fert on it this weekend and it really seems to help, Foliar Spray of Neptunes coming this week as well. Wednesday, August 11 View Page Day 35 OTT of 210lbs, Looking good, put Captan on stem split looks to be healing?? found a few cuc beetles in patch need to spray Sevin again, and another round of neptunes soon. Also have 3 other pumpkins coming on now around 30 inches!!! 59 days to contest, hope to have a 500 - 600 lb pumpkin by then. Friday, August 13 View Page Well I think Mehgan has stopped growing??? 2 days no growth, been 105 heat index all week?? We still have 3 pumpkins on 2 plants that have taken off and are around 14 days old, so hopefully, these come through for us??? Monday, August 16 View Page Day 14 Maddie was 40" Day 16 49" not to bad growth for 2 days!! Mehgan the big pumpkin has slowed and is at around 94" circumference around day 40 Tuesday, August 17 View Page Here is my lil pumpkin on our big pumpkin!!!! OTT = 258lbs yesterday, we are pretty happy for first year Wednesday, August 18 View Page Maddie at Day I think 16 is 130 OTT est 56 lbs Growing well so are the other 2 pumpkins. Meg is still growing slwly, but still growing she is around 260lbs. Thursday, August 19 View Page Day 43 MEg is 265lb, 230" OTT. Maddie is still growing at 130" OTT for around Day 15. So Far so good!!! 52 to more dys to contest Monday, August 23 View Page Well Big Meg pumpkin is around day 46 and she is slowly growing right at 286lbs, Pumpkin Maddie is growing around 15lbs a day and is at day 16 and is 97 lbs, Also a nice surprise in our "decoy" patch is a nice 111 OTT pumpkin, which is 43" at day 9. The nice thing about this pumpkin is that lost half the vine to SVB and cut it off only half a plant and I wrote this palnt off went back 4 days later to take fence down around the plants and there was a basketball sized pumpkin!! Gotta luv mother nature Tuesday, August 24 View Page Well we made 300lbs on our big one, Have a couple other that are coming on strong, Maddie Pumpkin is right at 111 lbs growing 15 - 18 pounds a day, on a secondary so hopefully she keeps this up!!!! Also have 3 other pumpkins between 50 - 80 lbs as well, grow baby grow!!!! Wednesday, August 25 View Page Big Meg 300lb pumpkin around day 48 started oozing a clear jelly fromt eh stem, think it is gummy stem blith?? Buddy is going to pick up some grafting spray and put captan on it hopefully to have it hang in there!!! Other Pumpkins growing well, Maddie is around 111 pounds 18 days old, litttle meg is around 80 pounnds and the Beast across the st from me that I though died off is growing like crazy, so have 5 pumpkikng from 40 lbs to 300lbs, grow baby grow!!! Tuesday, August 31 View Page Maddie 160 lbs and growing, Go Maddie Go!!! Wednesday, September 15 View Page Bog Meg rotted, sad,sad day. The main vine was buried and had severed about 3 or 4 rfeet from the pumpkin, so that is why she stopped growing, est weight 300lbs. Have Maddie still growing est around 250 and going good. Been a fun year have 5 pumpkins from 100lb to 250 so far, weigh in in 25 days Monday, September 20 View Page 9-18-10 My lil punkin with our big punkin right around 250lbs, big white one rotted and so did the 160lb white opne, down to 3 ornage pumpkins Hope they last abohter 3 weeks
