Back in February it was very cold here in upstate New York. The ground was frozen rock hard. One of the biggest thing that you don't want to do in the spring is to be working in your patch when the ground is wet and packing the soil. Which causes hard pan under your top soil. So I figured this was the perfect time to spread my compost on my two pumpkin patches.
