double your pleasure, double your fun...DOH.. not so fun. i had my suspicions, but this morning i got a better close up look. we have a strong wind warning today and after making sure all is secured well, i put some more soil around each plant all the way up to the cots to make sure they are stablized well. the fastest grower out of the block, the 901, doubled up on me. i wanted to be sure and was thinking about starting the other 901, but i decided against it to see what would happen. i was hoping the the small leaf under the second true leaf was just an aggressive 3rd true leaf. this morning i can see that it is facing the same direction and both are side by side. hopefully it will grow out of it. it is such a strong little sprout that i will give it a chance do do its thing all the way until the four or five foot vine stage and see if it corrects itself or i can perform the surgery and cut one off repeatedly to see what happens. the 873 naylor 2009 that is right next to it is very aggressive too and it will be a tough call to make. the 873 is my 1147 x gene mcmullen's 1119 and was 24% heavy. these 2 will now battle it out. i have never stayed with a double viner all season. i know that glenn andrews has more experience with double viners and encouraged me to grow out my 904 that doubled up a couple years back but i decided against it back then. i will be shooting him an email soon. but i did see my buddy timmer's double viner flat vine and ribbon out and was a mess of a plant. i still have plenty of time left to see what happens before the culling stage, but the 873 just got a 50% chance in earning the spot in my mind this morning. i looked up close on all other plants and they all seem normal. like gene mcmullen has said for all the 8 years i have known him...it is what it is. if the 873 earns the spot, it was meant to be. don't want to get your hopes up too soon Meat (tyson naylor) but you got a pony in the race in my number one honey hole. time will tell.
