the 991 looks like duncan keith from the blackhawks with 7 missing teeth...or leaves on the main i should say. actually it is 6 on the main and about 6 secondary leaves total this weekend. the 873 lost a total 3 main vine leaves and 4 or 5 secondary leaves. all roll overs remained upright today with addded support still from 6' garden stakes and reburying and there was gusty north winds today and they held up well so they should be good until tomorrows 2 inches of rain predicted and more storms. all vine burying, weeding, myco fungi adding and s curve training was done tonight. finished up with a combo spray of demand cs with a little humic acid thrown in as georgie boy spotted an svb in his patch this weekend. it is amazing how nice the plants look today accept for some beat up leaves that lost some backbone and missing and are folded over a bit and the missing spaces from the removed snapped leaves. the leaves surrounding the gaps will get that much bigger with the extra space. i must say it is amazing what i witnessed yesterday with every leaf on all 3 plants blown over touching the ground one way, then to the ground the opposite way and back and forth like this for 5 minutes. another 50-60 mph wind event. if i wasn't so sheltered in my neighborhood already and didn't have the 6' fence around the patch, my plants would have been totally leveled. gene mcmullen got leveled last year by a wind event and still kicked ass with 1544 and 3 or 4 more over 1000, so i am not too concerned. "it is what it is" is what gene has said for years. wishing gene the best as his home town of streator got hit with a tornado over the weekend. i was sure glad to hear himself, his family and his property were safe and sound. that kind of stuff puts it all in perspective. a plant is just a plant and many years left to compete with pumpkin growing. the safety of oneself and family and neighbors and friends is what it is all about.
