how much dissappointment can one plant bring me is the question. yesterday i pulled off 2 females on smaller secondaries on the 1147 at or near the tip cuz i had 2 stronger secondaries with females i was going to try. both stronger secondaries grew straight up over night and blew out on their own. identical blow outs snapped. the plant was getting harder and harder to train these cobra like secondaries standing up like and 's' as the plant has just got its strength back with a better established root system. i staked them down last night but they have been becoming more and more rigid as the vine thickness is increasing and catching up to the tips. more rain this morning on ground so maybe a storm with some wind came by, who knows. or just blow outs, and right before the females getting bigger each day and ready to pollinate next week. the plant just told me to relax and wait. it needs more plant it just told me. lol. i will now pick the remaining strongest secondary as a new main to fill the remaining gap and have at least 3 side vines on each side of considerable length located near the pumpkin off that vine. almost threw in the chips this morning on this plant, but i am callous to it by now and will just have to wait another 2 weeks for the female in the cluster develope. maybe the heat wave that is up coming told the plant to grow more leaves cuz them females ain't taking anyway in that 95 degree heat in a week. lol. yep. this plants is making me nuts. lol. 2 more weeks would make a july 27th pollination giving me 74 days to stoughton, which is plenty. took the tape to April on the 873 naylor pumpkin to help ease the pain. this girl has found a nice steady pattern and hit 30 lbs per day the past 3 and is estimated at 448 lbs on day 29. 127-75-74 = 276 ott. i am hoping with 2 parents that both produced 24% heavy pumpkins that this girl is chugging its inside wall thickness in the process of doing its thing.
