Came home tonight and found that the liquid coming from the base had turned milky colored and started to smell. Time to cut it off (probably about 4 days ago).
Cut the main vine from the stump at the next junction past where the rotten leaf was. Still had some discoloration. Cut at the next junction, White and healthy looking. Removed the stump and cut open. It was starting to rot in the center. Treated the cut end of the vine, remove the rotten vine and stump and the wet dirt around were it had been leaking. Treated remaining dirt with a heavy dose of companion.
So what I lost was the stump, 5.5 ft of vine and the first 5 sides (about 150 sq ft.
What I have left is 14 sides before the pumpkin on 14 ft of main and 15 after on 9 ft of main. Total remaining 20x23 = 460 sq ft. Hopefully I got it all, it will not continue to spread, and there is still enough to grow a respectable pumpkin.
