Its funny I always thought that you actually had to have a stem in order to get stem splits. But not on this 729. It just has the worst vine positioning too but I couldn't get anything else set and even the open pollinated secondary pumpkins were splitting all of their stems at a much earlier age than this. Cutting the main at the pumpkin is out of the question unfortunately: this pumpkin is only about 7 feet out on the main. If anyone knows some place local where I can pick up some Captan let me know. I'm debating on putting a fan on this temporarily. I have some friends coming over tomorrow evening, and I might have some of the guys give me a hand trying to reposition it with the blossom down a bit.
