5.6" of rain this morning. it is events like this that i am glad i have some weeds under the canopy to help buffer the pounding and help with the moisture intake. i just keep chopping them down when they get above leaf canopy with a serated edged knife and saw them down low once a week. walked on only 2 walking boards to prune some pop up terts on this hot humid rain day off of work. even on those boards i could feel how saturated the soil is. i watered 2 hours below the canopy yesterday morning and then 1.5 hours above and had the ground pretty saturated from my own watering prior to the event to protect against surging with expected rains. 5.6" wasn't expected and netiher was the lightening that knocked out the power for a couple hours. i never even looked at the blossom ends today. why ruin a night out tonight with dart leagues. i will check them on tomorrow. after we get another whacking of rain tonight and then again i think wednesday in this pattern draped from south dakota down the i-80 corridor. i measured the 1147 secondary set "stoughton" at 8.5 days old last night and it was 27.5" cc. i gave it some character today with a table leg edge corner while removing the table and putting a fresh white t shirt over it. all my pumpkins have scars eventually. lol. doh!!!! a sliver top side/white bottom side tarp will go over it tomorrow on day 10 and i will take an official 10 day measurement on the new member of the family. gonna have to wait on pics until i get my camara back from my folks house when i left it there sunday.
