I often thought that it could happen and it did at the PGPGA. A pumpkin slid through the harness on the way to the scales and with a loud thud the pumpkin split wide open. Everyone was quiet and unsure what was going to happen next as the grower, the legendary Lew Joe Yohe made is way.. cane in one hand to inspect the damage. It wasn't good. If anyone knows Joe he is one of these guys who seems a bit rough and tough on the outside but once you start talking with him he is soft on the inside. He was a true credit to the hobby and handled it like a gentleman. He acknowledged the hard work that the lifting staff was doing and complimented them. Way to go Joe. After the pumpkin was weighed he invited anyone who wanted a seed to come on up and get some. The fruit had very thick walls.
