fall mornings like today reminded me of a prayer i wrote for one of my best friends' wedding way back before i started growing giant pumpkins. he asked me to right something about the fall. "Autumn" Let us give praise to Autumn. When the Changing of the Guard is marked by both Beauty and Bounty. Truly a season of Thanksgiving"
amen to that! the patch work was stalled until tomorrow due to Da Bears game, football all day and night, and the fact its going up to 88 degrees today. did i say autumn? wtf? you can see in this pic this morning that the first phase of fall prep is almost completed. the whitish powder and ammendments can be seen next to the tilled black soil. 120 lbs of gypsum, 50 pounds of kelp meal, and 50 pounds of fine agricultural corn meal has been applied to each of the 3 planting spots that are 37' x 21' or 777 sq ft and one extra bag of gypsum for more calcium on tomato row that also gets the same ammendments as the pumpkins cuz its adjoining to the number 1 spot. that maple tree across the street is dropping leaves already. i should have at least 10 bags from my immediate close neighbors maples by next sunday and will go hit all the older established areas of the west side and collect all week long. the deep till today and tomorrow is getting the soil fluffed to accept the shredded leaves. the restricter bar is off the tiller and it is slowly being allowed to go down all the way until the nose is pointing up before moving another 6". this takes time. each spot will get 25 bags of tall brown bags shredded fine and incorporated into this already deep tilled fluff.
