fall patch prep is done. each of the three 700 sq ft plots got 50 pounds of cornmeal, 50 pounds of kelp meal, 120 pounds of gypsum, and 25 bags of fine shredded leaves were thoroughly tilled in deep. then after the deepspading was completed today to break up the hardpan 18" deep, one quart of aerify plus (contains kelp, humic acid, molasses and a soil loosener) was slowly soaked into all the loosened fluffy deep spaded soil with a hose end applicator. then i put down the winter rye and hairy vetch cover crop seeds and then topped it off with annual rye grass seed and leaf raked the whole patch to help disperse the seed more evenly and bury some in the process. now the 6' tall rain tower sprinkler will run for 8 hours tonight to help the aerify plus find its way deep into the subsoil cracks after coating all that leaf litter. also the sprinkler will help to get the cover crop seeds soaked for germination. supposed to get some rain this weekend too which would be nice. been dry as a bone and the trees could use it going into winter. the sprinkler covers the whole patch nicely when there is no wind like tonight. a full moon over the patch at dusk was a nice way to finish off the work and put the soil to rest until spring.
