here is a pic of the cover crop at twilight with the sprinkler going. its been real dry lately and i water it twice a week if no rain. not the best pic but the overall coverage is good with not many missing splotches. i am happy the nice weather has kicked it in gear to get the roots as deep as possible before multiple hard freezes and the actual frost layer penetrating into the ground. getting those winter rye roots deep into the hardpan and clay zone at 20" deep will help that area increase in organic matter and soil activity at that transitional zone and tap into all those nutrients that are locked up down deep as well.
