Here's a shot at my two patches. Patch 1 had a 1:1 mix of grazing rye/winter tares (vetch) sown on the 5th September and its been slow to grow. No prizes for guessing why. Patch 2 had a later sowing of 20th September. Upon checking yesterday it seems that some of the seed may just about be coming through although its been so wet and cold that I'm not sure how much. I have come to the conclusion that you just can't grow giant pumpkins in the UK unless you do so undercover so I am building two polytunnels for next year. They will be 20'x20' as indicated by the blue lines. The sides of each will roll up to allow and extra 3' (or more) of secondaries on each side.
