Yesterday I picked up a 40 LB bag of gypsum to put in the planting trenches to prevent blossom end rot. A benefit is that this is PH neutral so it won't throw off the soils balance. Last season due to extended periods of heavy rain followed by mini heat waves really caused a notable amount of stress that resulted in some blossom end rot despite my efforts to the contrary.
This year we will use gypsum in order to remedy the issue before it becomes one.
