Spent the day yesterday burying vines, picking weeds, watering.... and moving pallets into place. I grew on the ground last year and it made it difficult for me to move the big one around safely and get it loaded for the weigh off. I decided to go back to using my pallets this year. It is a little nerve-wrecking to get them in place but once they're in place it's pretty simple. I use a heavy duty pallet with a rubber stall mat on top and then some sand on the mat. If the pumpkin is put directly on the mat; it will sweat between the 2 and you will have risk for rot. The sand acts for a nice barrier like growing on the ground. The pallets also make it very easy to cover with a tarp in the threat of rain. the most difficult part is stabilizing the main on either side of the pallet so the entire thing doesn't twist and turn over.
