64.55 Murphy cantaloupe weighed 7.14 pounds. Personal Best for growing giant cantaloupes for the first time. I have grown smaller cantaloupes in the past. Lessons learned from this year. 1. Better soil prep instead of just putting in the ground. 2. Start about July 1 so that they won't be ripe by the time the first weigh off comes. 3. Change fertilizers and schedule. 4. Start spraying with fungicide in the middle of August to prevent Downy Mildew.
