looking back i said "hindsight is 20/20" when snipping off the 12' female on the 1041. well, it might have been the best decision i have ever made to give the plants secondary growth time to catch up from the early stunted missing ones before pollination. the runt plant of the patch early on has now the fastest growing pumpkin on it that measured in at 44" circ this morning at 5:30 am on day 12. if it holds together and doesn't blow and continues to grow nice all season, it will give me a chance to finally reach 4 digits and maybe thensome. i can only begin to dream big and crunch numbers, but still a long season a head. i have had seasons where all big ones have split and i look to gene mcmullen for the way he handled his losses last year as a class act dude with the attitude of a champ. you never know with this hobby, but dreaming big is what it is all about. at 5.25" per day, it could hit over 85" on day 20. ok enough brain. and many talk about not talking about a potential big'n cuz you will jinx yourself, i say to that, "I will do the opposite" like george castanza. it has worked so far with hail, so what the hail. i have quit naming my pumpkins over the past 2 years, but this one seems fit to be called "georgie". and i might as well name the 1446 "cosmo" after cosmo kramer. cosmo has impressed me as well hitting 76" circ. today on day 20. 2 plants producing great so far out of 4. and those 2 are proven top notch seeds. a lesson for next year...all proven seeds. i will let someone else prove mine out if they want and will use them for backups, but proven has proved out to be the way to go. the 1306 is only 36" on day 15, and now it will be called "newman". might as well stay on the seinfeld theme. i know its seem ridiculous and silly to some to name your pumpkins, but i am a silly many in a silly world with this silly hobby. shits-n-giggles baby.
