last chance this morning on the 997. going to cross with 7 1041 males bagged for the pollination at 6:15 before heading to work. i do not even care if has seeds in the blossum or deformed lobes, cuz this is the last chance and the main has been terminated for lack of space. the forced open female at 24 is 7 days old and not that impressive of a grower and may abort like the last one at day 8 or 9, so this is it. come on baby take. 2 big frozen bottles of ice will be placed around her with a fan blowing the cool air towards her. gonna get to 90 today. had to blanket all pumpkins a couple nights ago due to another record low at the joliet airport when it 55 degrees. i put them on again last night but the temps never did dip below 60 like forecasted. misters will be running all week for it is gonna be a cooker. got them set for 30 minute intervals at 10:30, 12, 1:30, and 3. when i get home at 4:30 i will kick it on again for a half hour. next year i will get a timer with more than 4 on/off settings. i am going to go buy a stilh blower tonight after work cuz i have been inspecting the undersides of many leaves checking for the onset of powdery mildew and have found a couple along my fence line with some minor patches setting in. got to take care of it now and the backbpack sprayer apparantly has not been been the answer and i need better coverage. also got some clearys being delivered today and will throw it in the rotation. the two leaves found with it do not get much airlfow by the fence. i will also use it for insecticides as i have seen more svbs lately and swatted one yesterday. the blower will easy my mind with insecticides covering all lower vines for svbs and getting better under the leaf coverage for powdery mildew. and besides that, just another toy i needed to buy anyways.
