laney is done. blossum rot after the big rains earlier in the week. tried to save her, but the rot made it too deep. so the 997 plant is free to do its own thing without encroaching on its neighbors. how newman (1306 is holding up i have no idea. multiple big stem side cracks that ooze then heal. deep and wide but not cavity breachers yet that i am aware of. it was never gonna go big but still would like to see it make it through to be a nice carver. so 2 chances for 1000 pounds left. cooler nights have things slowing down a bit. georgie(1041) today on day 39 is 138 84 82 and just about 600 pounds. cosmo (1446) is 148 92 90 and about 756 on day 47. cosmo is down to an average of 16 lbs a day for the past 7. this will be cutting it close in my mind. i need 250 more pounds and would love to see another 350 to make sure with wall thickness. it will be an interesting final push. they still both have a nice chance to make it to 1000 and the stem looks good on cosmo with no more splitting. both have no real signs of cantaloping skin or deeping of ribs yet so hopefully they will be long range growers beyond 80 days and both make it to the weigh off.
