the rain gauge filled over the top, and i had to backup at taco bell this afternoon cuz the drivethrough speaker area was flooded. boo hoo, no taco supremes and nachos bell grande for me today. i went to arby's instead, grabbed some beer, and sat down for an excellent growers chat and auction today. hats off to dave stelts, russ landry, andy wolf, steve jespen, and eddy z. nice auction too and i picked up some quality seeds for 2009 at a discount price.
my 1385 didn't germinate this year, so i will try it again in 2009. also picked up a 1010 daletas, 901 hunt, and 1225 jutras. that is a nice early start to deciding on next years line up. still need to have final 2008 results for all pumpkins to decide the line up along with more purchases to be made at future auctions. as of right now, i am most excitied by the 901 hunt. blankets will be going on cosmo and georgie tonight and the overhead tarps will be removed to allow as much sun and wind to circulate around the pumpkins to dry up the soil. with 5 days of sunshine predicted and 70 temps in the day time and 40s and 50s at night, i will be leaving 2 white king size comforters on both kins to keep temps as consistant as possible for the next 5 days. the energy level will be strong in the plants, and splitting is more of a concern than anything. after 5 days i will begin to allow the pumpkins to get warmed by the sun in the day and blanketed at night. the tarp structures will be removed from here on out and tarps will be put directly over the comforters each night to prevent dew absorbtion by the comforters.
