We hit 700 lbs on an old 16XX Holland seed last year. In the big picture of things, it might be good to just to give the ones you've got a chance. Curious whats the upside to trading away all those seeds to get the top two seeds.

jonah...you seem bored...if you add up all the last auction prices for all the seeds you listed vs the last auction price of the seeds you seek...is it a plus or minus. As a grower...if they plant one of the seeds that you want...what are their odds of recovering the investment cost in a weighoff win. Most growers can only do a few plants. If you are going to trade...how about making it a win-win situation.

Forgive me...may I ask your age? It seems every year we have a young grower posting similiar trade offers.

I always like the durham-raleigh area. It has been 20 years since I have been close to there. I think that to grow the biggest you can...don't concentrate on the seeds. Your environment is a bigger factor. Start time for the seeds should be way earlier than the northern growers. Shade cloth would be a great investment...much more important that greenhouse. As I remember, humidity is not as much of an issue as other places in the south...so disease pressure should be reduced. If you can solve the nuances of your location...you won't have to baseball card trade seeds....you can trade them direct with the growers of the seeds you desire.

I did get quite bored lol (I'm 13 by the way). The only reason I'm really doing this is because my little brother made a bet with me that I could not get the best pumpkin seeds, and I would like to prove him wrong lol.

Is there a time deadline on the bet? I will make a bet with you also. The bet I am offering is: There will be at least one of the seeds that you desire still in existence and not germinated when you reach the point of having solved the riddles of your growing environment. Of course...each year that you take in solving the riddle...makes it harder to germinate that seed.

I remember the 2145 went for over $1000 a few years ago. The 2365 and 1885 both come from the 2145. As well as many other great seeds out there now. You may already have the next "best" seed in your collection. Those Stelts seeds should be very good.

Hey, Jonah if you want some seeds to experiment with I can send you some instead of possibly wasting (or not) those super seeds like the 927 Jutras.
I mean I'd be shelling out like 40-50 bucks if that were in a Lot and I had not others' others from years past already.

*Disregard if you have it set in stone and this is NOT an attempt to get my seeds 'out there' this time, lol. No need to even answer if not interested and good luck otherwise---eg

thanks for heads up on the 927 p. Maybe I should look into that one. Someday might have to try to grow an alternative to the clone-holub cross.

bnot means....lazy typer.p is so much quicker.

I don't think that is what it meant originally, but after all these years, my memory gets a big vague in places.

Where can I buy one them $1 hothouses? Looks like you are solving the board issue Jonah.

bnot, You can build one of those hothouses by taking some tin foil to make supports and then tape those into place, and what I did was I cut up some large plastic bags, and taped them together to make a cover. I used a large paper bag a little like the ones from trader joes, and folded it flat. I put some tin foil at the bottom to add a sort of heating mat, but for cheaper. The convenient thing about tin is that since it is metal it will hear up, sort of like a normal heating mat works. I also put the straws in there so I can put water in without having to inject it. Of course, it won't work better than the ones you get at the garden centers, but I find that it works well enough for me (of course when I'm starting my more expensive seeds I will probably buy an actual hothouse of some sort). Sounds complicated jonah. I like the straw water injection. I am wondering..does your starting system take care of the condensation "issue". My commercial one has the habit of collecting condensation on the clear plastic. I havent decided if that is a good thing or bad thing. Is it blocking the light or refracting the light?

Don't think it's bad, but to combat that I made the two ends of the hothouse paper towel instead of plastic so that moisture can escape, but heat will still stay in

I don't think there'll be much of any condensation with
practically no heat being applied to this; On that topic, if one were to make provision(s) for any condensation to COLLECT enough and have a point from which to drop off from, that'd be beneficial but only to the extent of having the moisture be in a constant cycle, which is good. Don't forget that water has surface tension that must be exceeded in order for it to flow in very small quantities. Watch a windshield from inside a car during a soft rain for an example.
Droplets FORM and then slide/flow down the windshield.

I do not think the 'overhead watering' straws will work due to their 'cumbersomeness' and the amount of H2O in the seed-starting mix (I hope that's what is used) should be sufficient for the duration of any seeds that do sprout.

As far as warming the seeds' environment if it gets too cold, it'd take a lot more breath and hyperventilating therefore to warm them up than is humanly possible.
I am surprised daily at what gets warm and what doesn't in my own living room random sproutings, lol.
