This is from a german board about growing exotic plants: after 2 years of research a chemist managed to develop a working formula to produce something like Superthrive, with the difference you know what is inside here:

- 1 gram (15 grains) NAA (Naphthalene Acitic Acid)
- resolve in 50 cc Aceton
- 1 gram (15 grains) Vitamin B
- resolve in 950 cc distilled water
- mix both dilutions together, store dark and cool (40 F)

Now you have 1 liter (1000 cc) of a concentrated dilution.
NAA and Vitamin B should be available online from chemical suppliers or at special stores. The cost of the final delution is below 2 $.

Approved terms of use:
Poor 20 cc of the dilution into 2.5 gal of water, mix well and spray the plant thoroughly.
The auxine (NAA) will make the plant think that new leaves had been grown, the production of roots will increase dramatically within 3 days. Works for young plants as well as for older or suffering plants. Partial appliance (eg. certain vines) might also work.
The author claims that the additional use of gibberellins might not be a good idea for pumpkin plants since it will cause cell stretching: this will probably result in a higher, unbalanced plant with the risk of being damaged during winds and heavy rain. The effect on the final weight of the fruit is not proven. It works for grapes though.

Well, use this on your own risk or with test plants. A big group of people on this board spoke about a remarkable difference between treated and untreated plants though.

Floh, This is a proven fact. Naphthalene Acetic Acid can significantly increase the number, length and dry weight of root hairs, small roots and large roots.

MCPUMPKIN, Check out the supergrow web site. They sell NAA and IBA. Caution is the word of the day should you decide to use any of the Phytohormones. Lots of reading is required for proper use.

Quite often really. NAA is a common rooting hormone so we used it in the greenhouse to help strike cutttings. The Vitamin B-1 is also added to several commercial preperations.

Good stuff. See this US supplier as an example.

That product looks like it might grow root hairs on a hoe handle.

I doubt that it brings any help, to the healthy patch, from a biological viewpoint.

Neither did the manfactured GA that I played with, in my sixth grade teaching position. That one did some funny things with numerous plants we treated.
