Would regular (first cut) molasses cause any problems? Any particular reason that growers prefer black strap?

Cost and maybe to many carbs. Not sure about the carbs. Black Strap is the last product left which is cattle grade. It sells for about twenty five cents a pound. It can be found where cattle foods are ground, mixed and sold. In our area the buyer must supply the jugs or tank for filling.

Five gallon square tanks are used to ship horticulture liquids and chemicals. Some have taps for a hose bib cast into the tank body. That sure makes dispensing easy. Used ones are all the way from free to a buck or two, in our area. Check medium sized greenhouses for used smaller tanks.

I've been told by a few seasoned growers that it doesnt matter.

I would say availability. I just use what Agway has. They have a gallon jug for deer food that works fine.

sulphur will lower your ph in your soil in large enough quantities. for some folks with higher ph it might be beneficial.
