does it stress the leaves to apply foliar fertilizer late in the season?

Follow the maker's instructions. There are many foliar products in the fertilizer field.

I don't think it would stress the leaves. I don't think it's going to give the same benefit that it does earlier in the season though.

No. I have used a daily foliar program this season and it has given me the best leaves I've ever had. I think it actually strengthens their resistance. One goal of this type program is to keep a steady cosistent growth not too much at once that causes the pumpkin to mature too early or stop growing. Keeping consistent growth right up till weigh-off. I believe this program is keeping my fruit growing and growing but not too quickly and not splitting. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Hope this helps. Don

Ditto to Don's comments above. However I have reduced the addition, of other "N" sources, at least, by half, what I used the first two years. The first two years I had four out, of four, with either blossom end blow out or stem splits.

We got dealt a tricky hand, by mother, this spring but, in spite, of a late start, we have nice growth with no spits and splits. The plants were good enough, to produce the larger fruit, had we the skill, weather, luck or or all three, for them, to build the dream fruit.
