Over and under watering is sort of subjective I have a moisture meter but I cannot find any good recomendations. The only real reference has been to ball the soil up in your hand to see if it holds together or falls apart - that's ok but soil consistency has a lot to do with that test method. Soil I have built has high organics and added sand for texture - I just don't want to overwater-dilute.

Hey JN...What your saying is very true. The vine and pumpkin do like water. When you read all the posts some of the growers say 100 gallons a day..some alot more. It will depend on your soil's retention. If it's sandy it will run through and dry out quickly clay just the opposite. I think you will have to learn to listen to the vine. You can tell the difference from heat wilt and dry wilt. If it's heat the plant will recover and look good at night and morning.
good luck! Chuck
