Anyone use a water spike or an aqua cone or such to deep water plant roots? What it is is a spike that you place into the ground and place an empty 2 liter pop bottle with the bottom cut out on top of the spike. The water goes into the ground to the main root instead of watering potential weed seeds around the plant.

Just wondering if anyone has used them on an AG.

No, but sounds interesting i would however have spikes in place from start of seedling, and cover during severe rain storms. I might try it some time, could add small amounts of organic ferts that way too right to the roots. Ummmm.

it might work well at FIRST, but since these AG plants get to be over 500 square feet, well, you'll need a lot of those
little spike thingies! i am thinking perhaps...
well, there was a diary on here i saw a few days ago...

well, my point was gonna be, to use hoses or drip irrigation that would EXACTLY copy the outline of the plant,
like, a vine would have its own hose associated with it,
but the problem would be all the roots that are in-between
the vines UnDER-ground...they would go un-watered....

The grower "Mudflap" did that, but with pipes drilled into the ground, I think. His name was Ken Meyers, Mayers?, from Spanish Ontario. Might be the person you're thinking of pal2? What happens in nature is a rain soaks the soil deep. It dries out slowly. I think a good soaking, and then a drying period (length depending on targeted soild depth, and soil type) is the way to go about this. Misting in between to cool the leaves of course. A water spike would miss the roots in the upper soil. That's my opinion anyway, never know until you grow 1600 from a water spike plant though! AleX Noel.
