IVE had some calls and emails asking if its to late for the Agro-k pumpkin program as far as getting the whole program going---nope! The the first ground prep can be at 8-10 before planting and the 2nd prep is the day before or the day you plant--As far as the foliar part it could be started at any time to give your plants a boost or help the plants with a specific problem in the growing season--I hope this helps with some of the questions-----GROW EM BIG--CRAIG

jUST STARTED THE FIRST BLOCK TODAY, WON'T SET PLANTS OUT UNTIL THE 15TH OF MAY, WHICH IS AVERAGE FOR SOUTHERN ONTARIO. sTILL PLENTY OF TIME, NO RUSH TO PUT YOUR SEEDLINGS IN THE COLD GROUND, BECAUSE THEY WILL JUST SIT THERE UNTIL THINGS WARM UP. tOOK A SOIL TEMP READING TODAY STILL AROUND 55 DEGREES ON A RAISED BED. AGAIN BLOCK ONE ONLY HAS TO BE IN THE GROUND 1O TO 14 DAYS BEFORE YOU TRANSPLANT, IF THE GROUND IS TOO COLD THEN YOU ACTIVATING THE SOIL WILL NOT HAPPEN. cOMMON MISTAKE STARTING YOUR SEEDS TOO EARLY, THEY ALL ARE THE SAME SIZE COME MID jUNE ANYWAYS.

What temp does the soil need to be before seedlings will grow good? If your spot for your plant is 600 sq ft for instance, do you put block 1 just around the planting pit or on the whole 600 sq ft.

Doug, block 1 you spray the whole patch, block 2 you spray a 15 ft circle around planting site at planting time.

My Symbrew and some molasses was added this week. We are a full month ahead of last frost and perhaps longer. More important we are three weeks ahead, placing the seedlings into the cold frames. The cold frames are set to help warm the beginning nursery soil.

We will stay in the cold frames at least from May 1 -5 through the last frost date. The plants will not be unprotected from the cold until the weather settles down and warms up, to nighttime averages above fifty degrees. A close daily watch is needed, to provide daily ventilation when, in frame temperatures reach ninety degrees. Sometime depending, the weather trends, about May 15 the. Cold frames are opened but the sides are moved as needed, to provide a wind break. Windbreaks are removed when the vine is out some 6 to 9 feet and well rooted.

Growers further North or South may delay the start a bit or remove the protection according, to regional differences. Where I live an hour North or South makes a significant difference in the Spring warming process.

The early Agro-K foliar program begins within the cold frame. For this early foliar program we use quart spray bottles.
