When you use a fert as a drench are you just applying it to the stump or should it be applied to the soil where the vine is?

Everywhere there are roots.

Roots grow in an ever expanding radius around the basal crown & along the main. The older the plant gets the more "adeventitous" roots will set down from the nodes.

Texas. Idealy you should try and keep the imediate area in and just around the Basal Crown fairly dry as constant wetting of that area can and may cause the vines in that area to rot.
