Last year I used just overhead sprinklers. I'm thinking of adding drip tape irrigation this year to deliver most water and some fertilizer. I think this might cut down on some spraying for bugs and fungus. I was just wondering what everyone else was doing

amy and list,
i've similarly wanted to employ some "drip tape" or other drip irrigation system, but get confused about the many different product offerings, and what would be best used to satisfy the needs of AG's. any product names or flow rates etc. would be greatly appreciated. as an aside to this, does anyone think that well or pond water offers any benefits over town supplied (treated) water ?

I have used soaker hoses for watering with no problems as longs as there is pressure on the line. When I used a 55 gal drum, mixed my dry firtilizer and water in the drum and tried to pass (Gravity Flow) it through the soaker hose the holes clogged up.

Have you asked your water company for an analysis of their treated water. The chlorine in the water can be removed by letting the water sit in a container in the sunlight for a day or so. I think I would use the lake water over the treated water if I did not intend to eat the pumpkin after it is grown. ( Caution: Lake and river water can have many bad Bacteria's in it) John = Water.

You have a good point. My local water company has just announced that it will be using chloramine rather than chlorine to disinfect water. There is a warning to dialysis patients, grocery stores and restaurants with lobster tanks, and aquarium owners , that the previous method to eliminate chlorine will not work with chloramine. Lake and pond water may have "bad" bacteria in it, but who's to say that "city" water isn't worse in other contaminents? I'll stick to my spring-fed pond water, thankyou!

Guess I'm going to stick with my overhead watering this year, I'll have to water one part of the patch and switch to go on to the next, not enough pressure, I will have to look into getting a big water tank and a pump for next year.

all I can do is just use a sprinkler two times a day. Since I am only 14 I have no money and can't afford anything big I would like to have a watering system of some sort but i just don't think I can get one.
