Is any one familiar with this stuff, I seen it the other day, and was just wandering if it was worth purchasing.quart size of concentrate for $5.96. And how does this compare to Neptunes Harvest products?

Check a Lowes they had it here for $1.74 quart on clearence... Good stuff. I believe most all fish emulsion out there is made with the same type of bony fish. The only difference is the way they process it. I'm pretty certian the 5-1-1 is made more naturally with enzymes instead of heat and acid like the 2-4-1 or what ever the other is. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong...

My mistake about quarts and gallons---let me try again--How many gallons of fish fertlizer will one quart of the fish 5 1 1 make---finished mixed up product ready to use--??

If you mix 1 oz of fish fertilizer and 1 Gallon of water you will make 1 gal of product ready to use. 1 Quart of fish fertizler will make 32 gallons of product.

Read the information on the bottle it will tell you the best ratio of firtilizer to water. 32 ounces equal 1 quart. 64 ounces equals 1/2 gallon. 128 ounces 1 Gallon

So....1 oz makes a gallon or 127 oz water + 1 oz fish = 1 gallon. Silly G.

I sometime question the integrity of low cost fish emulsions, especially if they smell more than usual or have a foul odor. Though I honestly have no firsthand knowlege of how emusions are produced or what the effects of corner cutting might have on the finished goods.

the stink only lasts a day or 2. great way to keep the neighbors away for some quiet. Molasses added to the emulsion will take the stink away

Even after mixed in water, Alaskan STINKS. My sprayer leaks alittle and it gets on my hands. I was tempted to try and burn the scent off. GoJo didnt even take it off.

So Steve's nose would reject and his brain question the integrity of low cost local cold pressed, ground up and fermenting fish. That would be the finest form of fish soil additive known to man. I guarentee anyone that the very best will when fermenting smell, to high heavens. Some might call the fermenting odor foul. The very best can not be bottled and shipped without processing and adding something to stop the fermenting and cover the smell. Maybe if you were at the source you could get cold pressed before it was doctored up for the marketing process. Cold pressed has the best content over all.

Don't let the stinch bother you. Water it in to eliminate all but faint odor for about one day. That of course is the soil drench. The tiny bit left on the plant leaves no significant odor. When it drys on the leaf poof...at that point you would have to work at it to smell it. Pour the left overs into the compost pile and cover the dump site with three inches of leaves. Poof no odor there either. If there might be a little....toss on a shovel full or two of garden soil. That will take care of it just fine.

Steve you are just going to have to get your nose retrained and your brain's default thoughts working to know and accept the smell of the good stuff.
Then you can say nice things about the good stuff. :))))

Alaska Fish fertilizer is great stuff and I've used it in all my gardening practices for the past several years. There is some great information and details about how it is make at the link - it is made right in Renton, Washington State (a very close neighour to us here on the cost) so it is very nicely priced in our region.

Some foul odors indicate an anaerobic bacterial condition. Not all anaerobic bacteria are bad. But some are. The Alaska & Neptune's we've used, while they are more costly than some other brands, have never been as ripe as the home-made brew I was once forced to bury. LOL Bunker runs are always tempting but they just don't last the way I stored them...Phewwww!

Ive used at least 4 different brands of fish emulsion all of them 5-1-1. They ALL smell exactly the same. Like fish!!

I fish a lot..........and so do some friends. All the guts and bones get ground in an old blender and put in the compost. I used to put it in the soil but feel the compost route is better for the volume I sometimes get.

Last summer I put a dose in a Symbrew barrel. That was a mistake! :))

Any excess you have should go into compost. It may not be noticable but to much in the soil may be counter productive.

I'll bet Alaska fish fert. would work great as a stink bait for cat fishing. Its a 2-in-1 product, great for the garden, great for fishing...what more could you ask ;~)

Gourdzilla.........Cornmeal, flour and fish oil or spoiled chicken has always been good stink bait for cat fishing. I grew up on the tail end of the depression. We made our own or we did not have....just about anything. May I say if such conditions should return....even at my age I could grow on my surburban lot enough food to have a tradable excess without using any synthetic ferts or cides.

I found this at Lowes in Auburn, Wa,. for $10.92 a gallon. It comes under the Lilly Miller Brand. I found the same thing for up to $24.00 per gallon. Pays to shop around.
North Shore Boyz stated this is made in Renton, Wa. I can't find it there. Do you have a good Number or address for them.

After checking around I have found the Alaska Fish Fertilizer Co was bought out by the Lilly Miller Brand in Walnut Grove, CA. They do have a five gallon container as well as the quart and gallon. If anyone knows where or who would carry the larger size please advise. Buying in volume is definitely the economic choice. Thanks.

I used the tooth paste to get the smell off my hands, it worked great, but since I had no tooth paste left to brush my teeth I had to use the Irish Spring! What's worst fishy hands or a bubbling mouth??
