I found big bag of anchovies in freezer today & ran it threw vegie chopper, It came out like soup & got 2 gallons worth , Iv always herd plant a fish under plant,& itll grow good !, So would fresh fish ground up be good for soil? I realize that if it were close to planting time something might dig around & possable ruin plants , but if put on ahead of time -would it be good for soil?? Nothing could eat it know its like soup ! ?? & would it last in soil -the nutrents ?

I've used whole fish (sunfish/bluegill/bream whatever you call them) - i put them in april/may. the closer to planting i bury them, the farther i will put them from the stump.

the only thing i can say about fresh fish is it will atrack flys and that turn into maggots and other crawie stuff--heard someone say if you put fish near the roots your will get rot----far away or in the fall probly ok---

If you have raccoons in your area, bury the fish so deep they can't smell it or they will dig it up.

Ok this trial is getting interesting!! I took this mix up to patch -put one half gallon in 2 gal bucket & filled with water , mixed well & it now Resembles alaska emulison & almost smelles the same too! neet thing is theres almost ne hard parts left , after putting it on my pnions & strawberrys theres almost no sign of it,(except smell) ,I think even if it attracts flys -the smell will bew gone befor long & so will they << so if fish is truly got good stuff in it ,than this is gonna work good , there must be atleast some calicum & other stuff in it too as this mixture is every part of fish ,Note i tryed to do same on bigger fish but head wouldnt grind up !! But for anchovies & sardeens & mackeral it will work good !!! I may go to harbor & get trash can full !! If i find time , got my 2.5 yr old ,If i can get him to help ??

Make sure that canned fish aren't loaded with salts, seasoning & preservatives. Fresh fish to compost for sure. We bury all dead critters in the patch.

I grind and use raw fish...mostly pan fish ground up in an old yard sale food grinder. Most of mine goes into the compost pile. I have bear and coon which I thought might start a dig. Not so.........at least not yet. I water it in real good ande used it in the patch but like making good compost too. add a jag of molasses to pump up the biology. I havLast few years it all went to the compost.

hmmm I've been wondering what to do with all my outdoor goldfish that froze solid in my little pond at the end of January, they'll end up in the patch one way or another!

I called up the fish market and got about 10pds of fish carcus and barried them in the garden, I'm hoping for good results.
