Hi all,

I was just curious if any of you have tried the hose end style of carbon filters to remove chlorine from your water supply? How often did you have to replace the filter?

Any opinions on these things and recommendations on which one to use/where to buy online would be greatly appreciated.

Brian...........it is far easier and very much less costly to simply fill a few barrells and let chlorine evaporate or escape. Time it takes has generally been stated to be twenty four hours.

I agree Dwaine. I've done the barrel thing for a couple of seasons now since I was using a gravity fed t-tape system but to be honest, it's a big hassle. I can't go out of town for a couple days and have enough chlorine free water to keep the plants happy. My water tower is app. 240 gallons.

Just curious if anyone has tried these. I noticed they also have a new one out that doesn't use carbon. It uses some new filter media made of copper and zinc. They claim it's good for a year or 20,000 gallons before you have to change the filter and it flows 5 GPM.

The reason I'm curious is because I'm going to try using mycorrhizae this year and don't want to kill them off. Someone out there in pumpkin land must have tested something like this out?

I've read the discussions on whether or not removing the chlorine is even necessary but I thought it couldn't hurt!

If your going to drip I would defineatley make sure cl is gone. Its one thing to blow water over head at 40 psi in the morning sun, but drip will certinly contribute free residual cl.
How much is a new copper and zinc filter?? Is it something you can just figure out what the media is and home make it?? You can put a couple carbon filters in a row and replace them a time or two this season. There is all different sizes, and I think they last a good while. There is a tiny one on my fridge and its been going a long time. Or get carbon in bulk and home make some sort of canister filter. There is all sorts of media holders out there to get ideas from.
You dont have to get the water to lab grade or anything...If by the end of the season your loosing some efficency and a couple tenths of a ppm are sneaking by you'll already be sittin on that 1,000 lber!! Just use carbon when on vacation and fill the others when your around the patch...

i used those filter a few years back, they kept clogging up with organics even though i had a pre orgnics filter on the line, also if you have Chloramine instead of Chlorine letting the water sit will not remove it.
