is it true that a bit of urine deposited around the plants root system is a good thing? and, if a little is good is a lot great?

can we pipe our toilet right out to the patch?

what about # 2 --- can we compost it in with the coffee grinds and grass clippings?

is it true ron wallace used this method?

also can i germinate my seeds in the oven set on warm?
or should i go with something more reliable like the dash board of my car?

thanks

I'm new, I bet it would'nt hurt, I have heard coffee grounds and grass clippings in compost makes for good compost. That sounds crazy to me, put your seeds in the oven, would'nt the dash dry them out. I do it the old fashioned way, black dirt, filed sides, soaked for 4 hours, 1 inch deep, some water, when dry add a little more, and voila, like magic 99% come up.

Urine has a nominal analysis ot 16-5-5 which makes a nice organic early season get along.

Average Analysis of Human Urine

Carbon
11-17%

Nitrogen
15-19%

Phosphorus
2-5%

Potassium
3-5%

Calcium
4-6%

Dilute in 10 parts water & you're good to go - lousy pun intended.

Pap If you have a gas stove with a polit light in the oven you should be ok. My seeds open in about four days.
I do not push my seeds I do sand the edges, soak them and then place them in starter soil filled ice cream containers. Works for me John = Water

You got it pap. I remembered it as being Al Berard as well but when I looked it up it turns out to be Gary Keyzer " the Midwestern Maniac". For those without the first book it is a picture of Gary sitting (with pants down around his ankles) on a toilet that is on top of a picnic table which in turn is right next to his pumpkin patch. Sewer pipe and all from the toilet running into the patch. Looks like a pretty nice pumpkin growing in there as well.....Hmmmmm, I do have an old toilet from my winter remodeling job. Wonder if the wife would let me put in on the deck? It's only 20 feet from the patch.

Gary first started growing AG's in 1984 here in Wisconsin and is still active. He gave me a copy of that picture and was wearing a tee shirt with it printed on last year at the Nekoosa Pumpkin Fest weighoff.

Still old school in his growing techniques but a great guy, he says this will be his last year growing because of some health issues. We're all rooting for him to finish big.

Wayne,

The pH is alkaline (8.4 I think) & it is fairly high in salts which is why the dilution is 10-15 parts:1.

Tremor, if you are saying that the PH of urine is around 8.4
that isn't right. The normal PH of urine is typically 5.0 to around 7.0. If it sits for a period of time the PH will increase. But freshly "excreted" urine is in the range of around 5-7.0. thanks KathyT

Yeah, that Gustavsson from Sweden banks his urine all winter and adds it to his garden.

20 yards of 60 year old cow manure is what was put into my garden last fall. Really makes the soil nice and mellow.

Just a few problems with red root pigweed, but they are easy to control.

I've tried to stay away from throwing our dogs droppings in the garden.

Not an expert, but very experienced in the area, [unfortuneately], lol. I am a medical lab technician, and I have done thousands of urine dip sticks, urine ph is one of the many tests on the dipsticks. I don't recall what a normal urine sodium is but I will try to find out. Kathy

I was in the army inn korea they told us, don't eat the fruit the locals use there urine and feces for manure, so, they use it there, I bet in won't kill the plant

I marveled at a friend's tomato plants. Huge plants, very green leaves and gorgeous fruit. Upon inspection I found them to be growing in the moist lush part of a failed septic system. Our pumpkins being non edible should be very happy in that enviroment. The odor, not for me.

Pap, A little advice regarding the seeds in the oven. If you sprinkle a little salt on them before you put them in the oven, it works much better. Just wait till they are light brown and they will be ready.

Everyone, Thanks! I had just forgotten about the Sweden posts and now they are back! Uggghhhh!
