With pumpkins set and between 95-125lbs, it seems time to carefully supply higher Potassium. Using a product by Schultz called "Tomato Food" has a split of: 18-19-30. Like the potassium high to form strong stems, fight disease and reduces the need for watering. I've had some rapid growth at 15-17 lbs per day on the 127 pounder with circumference increase of 4" and 5" on consecutive days. Of course too much of a good thing concerns me but with the stress of 97 degrees and our continued extreme drought - I have to take some chances. The Schultz product comes in a red box of 1.5 pounds for about $4.50. This should last you a month or two worth of product. For all the money we spend on insecticide, shelters and physical labor; this is a good buy.

If I'am not mistaken schultz uses uria nitro to lower the price tage, also that uria nitro inhibits uptake of all nutrients by burning the root, in turn reducing the osmosis process. If I find the journal article I'll set all of you to it. I know there have been studies on this before for commerical growers done by graduate students. Just a thought about nitro!

I've been using the Schultz 18-19-30 for two years with good results. One of my big max pumpkins last year measured 11.5 inches thick
