Hello,
Could someone who uses soaker hoses please tell me the best way to lay them out under a plant that is going to be grown in the christmas tree shape. My hose is 100 feet long. I have been pinching the hose off with a c-clamp while the plant is small so I will not be wasting water.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug, I am not sure either, going to try the soaker hose next year. I would and will try to lay the hose by the main vine and along the side leading up to the pumpkin. If you mound the vine or bury it, then at each leaf node, it will send down roots. The soaker hose can only help by giving each little tap root a steady supply of water. I live in Georgia as well and with our hard clay soil, I have noticed that even with a soaker hose, some of the drainage is slower. Get your pumpkin plot really organic and loamy and you will not have those type of problems. Good luck to You!!

Thanks for the reply guys. Two of my vines looked like they were dead this afternoon. I finished putting the soakers on them and they perked up . I am trying to figure out the best way to lay them out and conserve water. My vines are still small. I don't want to water where there are no vines yet. I have 8 plants. Going to grow 4 in Christmas tree shape and on 4 I am just letting the main grow. The 4 with just a main are easy to water, I have 100 ft. soaker hoses to run along the main and I took a c-clamp and pinch of the hose. As the vine grows I will move the clamp farther out. Doug

You and Jeff both have a hand on me. Not until I can start the pumpkins in my back yard can I get the soaker hose and all they good stuff going. Now I can only see them about two times a week and well, you know, they did average this year. It is a blast regardless.

I have a small patch just over 500 sq. ft. and i use soaker hoses throughout my patch. I have mine layed out about one foot apart covering the entire patch.
