I posted this in the "coffee" blog on the Soil Prep message board, but thought I'd get more hits here and in General Discussion:

I've been adding Starbucks to my patch for about the past month. On their bags with spent coffee grounds that they leave at the door for free it says that the pH is 6.8 or 6.9. On their website it says that the grounds are acidic and need some lime applied if added directly to the garden. If the pH is 6.8 or 6.9, why would you need to add lime...sounds perfect to me? When you find a night walker worm large enough to trip you the time may have arrived to consider backing off a bit. Up to the time this may happen just keep hauling the grounds to your soil. All organic mater finishes at 7 PH. The key word is finished.
