Is lime and gypsum the same thimg?

No. Gypsum is Calcium Sulfate. It supplied calcium without altering the pH.
Lime is Calcium Carbonate which raises the soil pH.

There are different types of lime. The type you use depends on the results of a soil test. Dolomitic lime contains plant available magnesium. Calcitic lime contains little or no magnesium.

A soil test is used to determine the type & rate of calcium product needed.

Thanks tremor a soil test is in the pre prep patch plan this year. I think I want a ph of what around 51/2 or 6

7.8 - 8.2 is a good goal depending on where you start. 5.5 is way too acidic for pumpkins to perform to their full potenial.
