Hi Everyone,

We just received 8 large plastic bags of leaves that were raked up from someone's yard last fall. They were first put in paper bags and then in plastic. Some of them seem to have gotten wet as well. What we are wondering is -- We heard that leaves should be tilled into the soil in the fall. Can we still till these leaves in now, or will they give off something bad while they are decomposing in the soil that will hurt our growing pumpkins?

to my knowledge leaves tilled in in the spring will not hurt anything, thats what im gonna do this year, they will just aeriate the soil very well because the leaves have not yet decomposed. ~Bill

Adendum to Wildbill's reply: Decomposing the leaves added in the spring will use some of your Nitrogen.

sounds like those leaves haven't decomposed so they will tie up your N if you can compost them until next fall they will help you next year randy
